LightSource Emerges From Stealth With $33M to Modernize Sourcing and Procurement With AI

May 2, 2025 Craig Etkin

LightSource, an AI-native enterprise procurement platform, has officially launched with $33 million in funding, seeing a 10x ARR increase over 18 months and contracts with major enterprises

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–LightSource Labs Inc., an AI-native enterprise procurement platform, came out of stealth and announced $33 million in seed and Series A funding at a $130 million valuation to scale LightSource’s innovative platform. The round was co-led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Bain Capital Ventures, with participation from J2 Ventures. The platform is designed to modernize both strategic and direct material sourcing through the application of artificial intelligence.

This funding arrives as LightSource achieves considerable market traction, including a 10x increase in annual recurring revenue (ARR) over the preceding 18 months. The company has already secured contracts with major enterprises across various industries, including Yum! Brands, Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), Serta Simmons Bedding, Hello Fresh and Shure. With these funds, LightSource will scale its team, further enhance the platform’s capabilities, expand its reach into new sectors such as industrial chemicals and pharmaceuticals, and ultimately solidify its position as a strategic data repository connecting buyers and sellers across the globe.

Addressing a Critical yet Underserved Function Within Procurement

Despite the central role procurement plays in managing billions of dollars in enterprise spending, the industry has historically lagged in technological adoption, particularly within direct sourcing – the acquisition of materials directly used in producing a company’s products.

Approximately 70% of procurement teams do not use any software tools for sourcing. They continue to manage increasingly complex processes manually, relying on disparate information across thousands of emails, spreadsheets and randomly formatted invoices and contracts. LightSource is the first modern platform to finally deliver on the promise of digitalization for the core Direct and Strategic Indirect sourcing, which comprises up to 90% of the P&L.

“We want to make the easy things easier and the hard things possible by scaling our AI-powered solutions and converting procurement from a necessary evil to a critical business driver,” said Spencer Penn, co-founder and CEO of LightSource.

An AI-Powered “Operating System” for Sourcing

LightSource is designed as a next-generation platform that harnesses the power of AI to streamline the entire procurement process for both buyers and suppliers. For buyers, the platform aims to automate key tasks such as identifying potential suppliers, managing requests for quotes (RFQs), efficiently comparing bids and fostering seamless team collaboration. For suppliers, LightSource simplifies the process of reviewing RFQs and responding with competitive quotes, thereby facilitating new business acquisition.

LightSource’s AI capabilities for data-interoperability enables users to effortlessly standardize and compare quotes received in a multitude of formats, including emails, PDFs and spreadsheets, with granular visibility down to the Bill of Materials (BOM) level. Since 2024, over $1 billion in spend has been processed through LightSource’s platform, facilitating more than 1,100 sourcing events.

“LightSource has delivered faster decision-making and meaningful cost improvements,” said Roger Larsh, Chief Procurement Officer of RSCS, the supply chain arm of Yum! Brands. “The team has worked closely with us to understand our business, ensuring that the platform solves our current needs while proactively developing useful enhancements. We’ve seen strong adoption across our team thanks to easy usability and rapid time-to-value, and we’re proud to help LightSource lead the way transforming our industry.”

Modern Procurement Tools Assist With Market Uncertainty

LightSource comes at a critical time amid global trade uncertainty and volatility, highlighting the need for robust and agile procurement tools. This environment underscores the critical need for software solutions that provide real-time visibility into supply chains, enable scenario planning and facilitate agile decision-making.

“Procurement is one of the most critical functions in many enterprises but the lionshare of procurement teams manage this process manually, leaving millions of dollars of savings on the table,” said Anoushka Vaswani, partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners. “Idan and Spencer have built a next-generation AI-powered platform for direct sourcing. The user love they have garnered from Fortune 500 companies and the versatility of the platform to handle different industries – from electronics to auto to consumer goods – have been impressive.”

“With its AI capabilities for data-interoperability, LightSource is fundamentally shifting procurement into the modern era, while driving cost savings for buyers and improving supplier relationships,” said Ajay Agarwal, partner at Bain Capital Ventures. “We’re glad to support Idan, Spencer and the rest of the LightSource team as they become the default operating system for procurement and sourcing on a global scale.”

Flex has closed a $60 million Series B equity round led by Portage, bringing total equity raised to $105 million. In the last year, the company has quadrupled revenue and tripled its payments volume to $3 billion as it scales its all-in-one business and personal finance platform for high-net-worth middle-market business owners. Running a profitable middle-market business has become one of the most complex financial jobs in America, with owners often juggling more than ten disconnected systems to manage their money. Flex was created to give these high net worth owners a single place to run both their business and personal finances. This latest $60 Million equity round, followed by its $200 Million debt and $25 Million equity raise announced earlier this year, builds on a period of rapid hypergrowth. In just 12 months, Flex has grown revenue fourfold and increased annualized total payments volume from $1 billion to $3 billion across a suite of products, positioning Flex as one of the fastest-growing fintech companies at scale with best-in-class capital efficiency.

Across the United States, a new industrial age is taking shape. Trillions of dollars in infrastructure, from energy projects and advanced manufacturing to data centers and critical mineral facilities, must be built in the next decade. But large construction projects are slower and more expensive today than they were half a century ago. Unlimited Industries, a California-based company using AI to rethink how infrastructure gets built, has raised $12 million in seed funding to change that. The round was co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and CIV, with participation from leading industry investors. The capital will accelerate Unlimited’s expansion and further develop its proprietary AI platform – one designed to make large-scale engineering and construction faster, cheaper, and more ambitious.

Unlike traditional construction firms or standard software companies, Unlimited is an AI-native construction company that both designs and builds. Its proprietary platform can generate and evaluate hundreds of thousands of design configurations in parallel, automatically identifying optimal layouts for cost, safety, and performance before construction begins. By integrating AI-driven design with its own vertically integrated engineering and construction teams, Unlimited eliminates the costly handoffs and misaligned incentives that have defined the industry for decades.

In a statement Alex Modon, Co-Founder and CEO of Unlimited Industries said, “Advances in AI mean we can finally build the physical world the way we build software.” “The traditional construction model is slow, brittle, and fundamentally misaligned. Our approach replaces static design choices with a dynamic, data-driven process that learns from every project. The result is faster, cheaper, and more successful projects.”

Unlimited is an AI-native construction company headquartered in San Francisco. Today, the company designs and builds across energy infrastructure, data centers, critical minerals, and advanced manufacturing, helping developers build with greater speed, ambition, and efficiency. Their mission is to build a future of radical physical abundance by automating construction end-to-end. The company was founded in 2025 by serial founders Alex Modon, Jordan Stern, and Tara Viswanathan.
