Recess Raises $1.75M Pre-Seed to Build the Future of Children’s Activity Booking

Recess Raises $1.75M Pre-Seed to Build the Future of Children’s Activity Booking

March 28, 2025 Craig Etkin

AUSTIN, Texas, March 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Recess, a marketplace platform for parents to find and book enrichment classes, after-school care, and camps, today announced it has secured $1.75 million in pre-seed funding. The oversubscribed round was led by Baukunst.

Recess’ search platform is currently live, with full booking capabilities set to launch this summer in Austin, followed by national expansion. The company aims to reshape how families book their children’s activities, much like Airbnb revolutionized travel booking and OpenTable transformed restaurant booking.

“We’re launching Recess at a pivotal moment for families and providers alike,” said Amy Kiska, co-founder and CEO of Recess. “Recent shifts in the supply landscape and advancements in AI have created the perfect conditions for Recess to scale.”

Co-founders Amy Kiska and Molly Morse bring a combined 25 years of experience in venture-backed startups to Recess. Kiska’s background includes expertise in global business development and expansion, while Morse specializes in building and running marketplaces. Both are mothers who have personally experienced the pain point they’re addressing. Impressively, Kiska built the company while in her third trimester and successfully closed funding immediately after the birth of her child.

“As parents ourselves, we understand the challenges families face in managing their children’s activities,” said Molly Morse, co-founder and COO. “Recess is designed to simplify this process and provide a comprehensive solution for busy parents.”

“We’re thrilled to deliver a platform that not only eases the mental load for parents but also drives business growth for activity providers,” added Kiska.

Kate McAndrew, General Partner at Baukunst, commented on the investment: “Recess is poised to become the category-defining platform in children’s activity management. We’re so excited to support Amy and Molly as they build this. They’re a phenomenal team.”
