ProRata Closes $40 Million Series B Financing and Launches Gist Answers, Creating New Revenue Opportunities for Publishers in the AI Era

ProRata Closes $40 Million Series B Financing and Launches Gist Answers, Creating New Revenue Opportunities for Publishers in the AI Era

September 18, 2025 Craig Etkin

Additional funding accelerates ProRata’s goal to build a sustainable AI economy for publishers and creators.

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–ProRataAI, Inc. (ProRata), a technology company building AI solutions grounded in respect for content creators, today announced the closing of a $40 million Series B financing round led by Touring Capital. The investment will accelerate the rollout of Gist Answers, a new AI-as-a-service solution that enables publishers to harness the rapid growth of generative AI by embedding custom AI search, summarization, and recommendation functionality directly into their websites and other digital destinations. ProRata has raised more than $75 million since the company’s founding last year.

Big day at @Prorata_ai closing a $40M Series B led by Touring Capital AND launched Gist Answers—AI search that puts publishers back in control. The future of ethical AI search is here. #AI #publishing #GistAnswersShare

Gist Answers launched today with early-access partners representing over 100 publications. Designed to put control of the AI search experience back in the hands of publishers, the service enables richer interactive experiences—driving longer sessions, stronger engagement, and greater value.

“Search has always shaped how people discover knowledge, but for too long publishers have been forced to give that power away,” said Bill Gross, CEO and founder of ProRata. “Gist Answers changes that dynamic, bringing AI search directly to their sites, where it deepens engagement, restores control, and opens entirely new paths for discovery.”

Publishers can also extend their reach and revenue opportunities by licensing their content to ProRata to inform Gist Answers on third-party destinations. With more than 700 high-quality publications worldwide already participating, Gist is leveraging its core content attribution technology to build an ethical, licensed model where human creativity fuels the AI economy—and shares in its rewards.

Gist Answers is designed to work in tandem with Gist Ads, an innovative advertising platform that transforms AI answers into high-value ad inventory by placing native, conversational ads adjacent to AI responses. This creates a premium format aligned with user intent, driving performance for marketers and unlocking incremental revenue for publishers.

“Generative AI is reshaping search and digital advertising, creating an opportunity for a new category of infrastructure to compensate content creators whose work powers the answers we are relying on daily,” said Nagraj Kashyap, General Partner, Touring Capital. “ProRata is addressing this inflection point with a market-neutral model designed to become the default platform for attribution and fair monetization across the ecosystem. We believe the shift toward AI-native search experiences will unlock greater value for advertisers, publishers, and consumers alike.”

“As a publisher, our priority is making sure our journalism reaches audiences in trusted ways,” said Nicholas Thompson, CEO of The Atlantic. “By contributing our content to the Gist network, we know it’s being used ethically, with full credit, while also helping adopters of Gist Answers deliver accurate, high-quality responses to their readers.”

“The role of publishers in the AI era is to ensure that trusted journalism remains central to how people search and learn,” said Andrew Perlman, CEO of Recurrent, owner of Popular Science. “By partnering with ProRata, we’re showing how an established brand can embrace new technology like Gist Answers to deepen engagement and demonstrate the enduring value of quality journalism.”

“Search has always been critical to how our readers find and interact with content,” said Jeremy Gulban, CEO of CherryRoad Media. “With Gist Answers, our audience can engage directly with us and get trusted answers sourced from our reporting, strengthened by content from a vetted network of international media outlets. Engagement is higher, and we’re able to explore new revenue opportunities that simply didn’t exist before.”

“We’re really excited to be partnering with ProRata,” said Paul Edmondson, CEO of The Arena Group, owner of Parade and Athlon Sports. “At Arena, we’re always looking for unique and innovative ways to better serve our audience, and Gist Answers allows us to adapt to new technology in an ethical way.”

ProRata was founded on the principle that the work of journalists, creators, and publishers is not just raw material for AI, but a vital source of knowledge that deserves recognition and reward. By ensuring attribution is transparent, compensation is proportional, and content is licensed rather than scraped, ProRata is showing that AI can be both ethical and sustainable.

Flex has closed a $60 million Series B equity round led by Portage, bringing total equity raised to $105 million. In the last year, the company has quadrupled revenue and tripled its payments volume to $3 billion as it scales its all-in-one business and personal finance platform for high-net-worth middle-market business owners. Running a profitable middle-market business has become one of the most complex financial jobs in America, with owners often juggling more than ten disconnected systems to manage their money. Flex was created to give these high net worth owners a single place to run both their business and personal finances. This latest $60 Million equity round, followed by its $200 Million debt and $25 Million equity raise announced earlier this year, builds on a period of rapid hypergrowth. In just 12 months, Flex has grown revenue fourfold and increased annualized total payments volume from $1 billion to $3 billion across a suite of products, positioning Flex as one of the fastest-growing fintech companies at scale with best-in-class capital efficiency.

Flex is building the category-defining company solving this gap for high net worth business owners with a five-pillar strategy built around private credit, a business finance stack, a personal finance stack, payment solutions, and an ERP built for middle market businesses. Once owners experience the benefits of the Flex Credit Card, they often go on to adopt Flex’s banking, payments, working capital, and expense management tools to replace fragmented legacy systems. This integrated model has allowed Flex to scale with high efficiency and has created a strong foundation for its expansion into personal finance.

Across the United States, a new industrial age is taking shape. Trillions of dollars in infrastructure, from energy projects and advanced manufacturing to data centers and critical mineral facilities, must be built in the next decade. But large construction projects are slower and more expensive today than they were half a century ago. Unlimited Industries, a California-based company using AI to rethink how infrastructure gets built, has raised $12 million in seed funding to change that. The round was co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and CIV, with participation from leading industry investors. The capital will accelerate Unlimited’s expansion and further develop its proprietary AI platform – one designed to make large-scale engineering and construction faster, cheaper, and more ambitious.

Unlike traditional construction firms or standard software companies, Unlimited is an AI-native construction company that both designs and builds. Its proprietary platform can generate and evaluate hundreds of thousands of design configurations in parallel, automatically identifying optimal layouts for cost, safety, and performance before construction begins. By integrating AI-driven design with its own vertically integrated engineering and construction teams, Unlimited eliminates the costly handoffs and misaligned incentives that have defined the industry for decades.

In a statement Alex Modon, Co-Founder and CEO of Unlimited Industries said, “Advances in AI mean we can finally build the physical world the way we build software.” “The traditional construction model is slow, brittle, and fundamentally misaligned. Our approach replaces static design choices with a dynamic, data-driven process that learns from every project. The result is faster, cheaper, and more successful projects.”

Unlimited is an AI-native construction company headquartered in San Francisco. Today, the company designs and builds across energy infrastructure, data centers, critical minerals, and advanced manufacturing, helping developers build with greater speed, ambition, and efficiency. Their mission is to build a future of radical physical abundance by automating construction end-to-end. The company was founded in 2025 by serial founders Alex Modon, Jordan Stern, and Tara Viswanathan.
