Blue Origin plans expansion in Merritt Island Florida creating 500 new jobs.
Merritt Island, Florida — According to state and local development sources, Blue Origin plans to invest $600 Million to build out 830,000 square feet of new space in Merritt Island. The company is creating 500 new jobs at this facility. The company plans to occupy the new space in Merritt Island, on or about May 1, 2028. According to the company website Reusability is the key to radically reducing the cost of spaceflight. Our rockets, New Shepard and New Glenn, have been designed for reusability from the start. Each vehicle features a vertical take-off and landing architecture, enabling booster re-use up to 25 times with minimal refurbishment. They are powered by reusable, throttleable, liquid propellant engines. The road to space will be built from the limitless treasures of the solar system. We must learn to “live off the land” to fully realize the promise of space for the benefit of Earth. Today, Blue Origin is learning to harness materials found in space to enable future exploration. This includes using lunar dust to ultimately produce solar power systems, power transmission cables, and oxygen for propellants and human consumption, as well as developing systems to identify water ice on the Moon’s south pole for extraction of hydrogen to refuel our landers. Founded by Blue Origin, Club for the Future is a nonprofit with the mission to inspire and mobilize future generations to pursue careers in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math). The Club and its partners are doing this through the Postcards to Space program, providing space-focused lessons and events, and activating ambassadors around the world.
