About SonoThera
SonoThera is a biotechnology company dedicated to treating the root cause of human disease through genetic therapy using a proprietary, ultrasound-mediated delivery (UMD) platform. Through this nonviral, non-invasive approach, the company is developing next-generation genetic medicines that enable broad, highly targeted biodistribution to nearly any organ while avoiding unwanted off-target delivery and the immunogenicity and toxicity associated with viral and traditional nonviral vectors. The company is advancing therapeutic programs across multiple organ systems, including muscle, kidney, liver, heart, adipose tissue, and the central nervous system, with publicly presented data in diseases such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, limb-girdle muscular dystrophies, X-linked Alport Syndrome, and autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, and is planning to initiate its first human clinical trial in 2027 with several additional INDs to follow. Headquartered in South San Francisco, California, SonoThera has also bolstered its position with a $60.75 million Series A financing to further optimize its platform, expand preclinical development, and establish in-house capabilities for advanced payload design, engineering, and manufacturing across multiple genetic modalities.
