El Paso, Texas — According to state and local development sources, University Medical Center of El Paso plans to invest $8,500,000.00 to build out 13,572 square feet of new space in El Paso. The company plans to occupy the new space at 4815 Alameda Ave. in El Paso, on or about March 1, 2027. According to the company website The University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) was selected as the Best Hospital in El Paso for 2015 by El Paso residents. It was also selected for having Best Clinics and Best Emerency Department. UMC is home to the only Level I Trauma Center in a 280-mile radius of El Paso. More than 85 percent of all trauma cases are sent to UMC, widely regarded as the best equipped, most advanced hospital in the region. UMC is known for being staffed with some of the most highly skilled and experienced surgeons, nurses, technicians and staff in the southwestern United States. UMC is licensed by the State of Texas and accredited by the Joint Commission. Since the early 1990s, the White House has designated UMC as the hospital where the President, Vice President and former Presidents of the United States will be treated should they require medical care while traveling in the region. Accessible, high quality care is the focus of UMC. UMCs Neighborhood Healthcare Centers are primary care centers throughout El Paso County that were established to reduce unnecessary and expensive trips to the Emergency Department. The neighborhood centers combined saw nearly 100,000 visits in FY 2015. The facilities are staffed by physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants that are board certified in internal medicine, family practice, pediatrics and geriatrics. The centers feature specialty care for the management of chronic diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension, plus therapies for osteoporosis and stroke patients. Outpatient Rehabilitation, Family Planning, Infusion (chemotherapy), Pharmacy, Laboratory and Radiology services are also available at various locations across El Paso. UMC is also home to the West Texas Regional Poison Control Center. In FY 2015 UMC received approximately $65 million in Hospital District operating taxes, yet we provided $354 million in uncompensated care to the uninsured and working poor population in the El Paso community.
